First RAW Bar of the year

PhD supervision

Let's talk about serious stuff...while having fun

We are kicking off 2020 with a super-cosy RAW bar: an informal academic Friday bar where PhD students gather to discuss and debate a relevant theme, facilitated by an expert in the area.

A misalignment of expectations between the PhD student and supervisor and poor task prioritization can often have a heavy negative impact on the progress of the PhD. Thus, this month we'll chat about the importance of good PhD supervision and work prioritization during the PhD.

Programme:

15.30 - 15.45: Welcome, grab a drink.

15.45 - 16.30: Anton Pottegård, professor at SUND and mentoring enthusiast, “Who’s got your ear? Your supervisor, your colleagues or the bricks in the wall?”

16.30 - 17.30: Interactive group game: Problem-oriented supervision.

Anton Pottegård is a young SDU professor. After graduating from his PhD in 2014, he quickly climbed the academic ladder, becoming associate professor in 2016 and full professor in 2019. Anton is very passionate about mentoring and will open an informal discussion on PhD students' work from the perspective of a supervisor.

After the chat with Anton, we'll divide into groups of 5-6 and play an interactive game on how to improve the supervision process and become better supervisors ourselves. The game was developed by Per Lauvås from Oslo University. Everything together with cold drinks and a nice atmosphere to meet other PhD students and postdocs at SDU.
